U.S. SECRET CAR.
Under stress of the long-continued ' depression and the eonsequent dei mand for the least expensive form of ■ motor car, a return to popularity of ! the four-cylinder engine is fore- ! shadowed. I The third or fourth largest AmeriJ can car builder is about to launch j on the market a new four-cylinder ] model. Of recent years he has built i nothing but six and eight-cylinder | cars. The four-cylinder engine is much cheaper to manufacture, and the new car will be low in price. It is claimed that by a new system of mounting the engine, vibration, the chief drawi back of the "four," is eliminated. Great secrecy has been maintained about its design and. production. At least one new British four-cy-j linder car is on the stocks, and it will j not be introduced until shortly before the motor show. During the last six or eigh^t months "small fours" have : constituted a good 50 per cent. of I the total saies of new cars in Engj land. [ In the United States first cust is , the chief consideration, and a revival ; of the "four" at the expense of the i multi-eylinder car is unexpected.
