MILD EPIDEMIC IN AUCKLAND BUSINESS STAFFS DEPLETED

AUCKLAND, Monday. An epidemic of influenza and influenza colds is seriously depleting the staffs of city business houses, factories, and public services. In one large establishment, 50 employees were absent to-day. The Auckland hospital has been called upon to accommodate a great influx of influenza, patients and the authorities have been obliged to refuse aiiy but urgent cases. On the whole the epidemic is of a comparatively mild nature, the worst form being accompanied by gastric disorders. The serious pneumonic type is conspicuous by its absenee.
