IRISH BALLADS
O.RPHANS ENTERTAINED BY MR. DAN FOLEY . POPULAR SINGER'S SUCCESS Mr Dan Foley, the popular Wellington singer led the programme at the weekly meeting of the Rotorua Orphans' Club on Thursday night and his efforts, ably supported by several prominent artists and the Orphans' Orchestra, made one of the finest evenings of the season. Mr Foley speeialises in Irish bailads and his renderings of the Irish national airs had the audi'ence in a state of enthusiasm. His repertoire is an extensive one and during the evening he gave no less then twelve songs, Mr Foley has a very pleasing voice and an excellent stage presence. Other contributors to a well balanced programme wbre Messrs J. D. Hinton, violin solo; Jolly, whistling sblos; Wood, character sketches and Monsieur (to come) Hungarian pianist. All were enthusiastically encored and the orchestra rendered four excellent selections. Bro. J. D. Davys was in the chair and during the evening he related two humorous stories as well as announcing that the club had been invited to send reprecentatives to the Opotiki and Gisborne clubs' next meetings. He also read a massage from Bro. Ernest Davis regretting the fact that he conld not attend and wishing the club a pleasant session. President Roberts gave a brief account of the club's visit to Cambridge and expressed his appreciation of the wonderful hospitality which had been shown them by the Cambridge orphans.
