riots in barcelona MADRID, Thursday. At Barcelona at least eight persons were killed and many were injured in a general strike which is paralysing the city. The telephone and telegraph lines have been cut and the post office, banks and Government buildings are guarded by machine guns. The police are equipped with rifles. All shops are closed and newspapers are not being published. Troops are confined to barracks.
