GUN BATTLE
VIVID STORY OF GRIM MIDNIGHT BATTLE AT GLENROY Mr Mic.hael Nicholson told a thril-" ing story o'f the reckless gun battle hat he and his father-in-law (Robert Maw) and his brother-in-law (Thomas Maw) fought with a gang of six men :n Pascoe Vale Road, Glenroy (says a Melbourne paper). Mr Nicholson said t'hat he and his •ompanions were awakened shortly ifter 2 o'clock. As they approached the garage the loor was pushed wide open, and six nen came running out, one after the ither. Although Mr Nicholson flred several shots, one man failed to get iway, and after a severe struggle was leld. This man was small and dark, md appeared to be a foreigner. Soon afterwards they heard a car it'art higher up the road. It swung lown the street fairly slowly, and went past the garage. Mr Nicholson Ired several shots at it, and although he hit the car he did not hurt any of :he occupants. Attack RenewecJ. After passing the garage the car, a hig, blue tourer, stopped, and the flve nen returned to renew the flght. One )f them hit Mr Maw on the head with 1 tyre lever-. The man that was being held got one arm free and pulled a ■second pistol from his pocket. Mr Yicholson fired again, but after that it wa,s all he and his friends could do ■o look after themselves, so they lof i.heir prisoner go. All the men then dashed off in the ^ar. A chase in another car followed, hut the bandit-s' car was too fast and ,rot clean away.
