HOLD-UP AT BONDI ACID THROWN IN FACE •Jack Pollard, a bus driver, of Bondi, was blinded ' by some acid thrown by one of two men in a Bondi hotel and then robbed of £9 (says a Sydney paper). Pollard, who is a single man, drives a Clovelly- Gity bus., He had.just been paid, and went to Askey's Hotel, at Bondi JUnction. • Pollard, who was soher, left the bar, .and was in a lonely part of the hotel when he was" approached by two men. One man hurled something at Pollard's eyes. . The victim doubled with pain immadiately. Tears streamed down his face, and while he was staggering about the room he was held and his pockets rifled. The sum of £9 was taken. Groaning in agony, Pollard staggered baclc to the bar, shouting that he had been blipded and robbed. 'The two men 'had disappeared. Gonstable Light was quickly on the ;cene, and made an unsuccessful ;earch for the robbers. The Eastern ^uburbs Ambulance took Pollard t.o st. Vincent's Hospital. Doctors were unable to- say what acid was used, but they said that follard's eyes were badly affected. Later he recovered sufficiently to return home. Detectives in the Wireless Patrol ■ushed to Bondi Junction, and a sys"ematic search was begun.
