LONDON, Wednesday. Owing to heavy rain there was no play this morning in the cricket match New Zealand v. the Gentlemen of England. There is little prospect of there being any play to-day. The match against Sussex was eoncluded yesterday and resulted^ in a draw,. The visitors in their second inn-. ings compiled 305 and the county had scored 18 without loss when stumps were drawn. The New Zealand batsmen- again failed to take advantage of a good start. After the dismissal of Mills, who batted for 100 minutes and hit eight fours, Blunt eontinued to bat soundly, his late cutting .being ex--cellent. With Talbot he wiped off the arrears. After lunch when he was five short of a century he just dislodged a bail when *playing back to Parks. He was exceedingly unlucky. Blunt batted for 160 minutes- and hit six fours. The remaining batsmen chiefly lost their wickets in attempting to force the pace. Talbot and Kerr were steady. Merritt hit freely at the close of the innings. Bowling with a new ball, after the 200 had appeared Wensley struck form. He swung away late and made pace off the pitch. Lowry and James were caught in the slips and Yivian played a ball on to the wickets. Sussex needed 142 for victory. Bowley and Parks hatted until stumps. The attendance was 2000.
