STRAIGHT TALK ON LACK OF FELLOWSHIP

ROTORUA BOWLERS. Str„ng criticism of the lack of fel'lowship in the club was voiced by Dr. H. Bertram at tbe a-nnual meeting of the Rotorua- Bowling Club last night. The discussion arose when a suggestion was made that candidat; s for elec tion to the committee should stand up as they might not he known to all members. "Our club has not the best of reputations in tbat connection," observed the doctor. "In fact, outside, it is bad — A Voice: It is ahsolutely rotten. (Laughter.) "It is 'not a laughing. matter," stated the doctor. "This club has a had name outside, and we might as* well knew it. The reason is that ev-ery-where else there is fellowsh-ip on the green, but not in Rotorua. Oue reason ma.y be that we have not our own green but there is something wrong with the spirit of the bowlers here. "Visitors come here but they are •not treated as visitors are on other greens. We- have got to 'pull up our socks,' as it were, and see that visitors get the same consideration here as they get on other greens. The time has come when everyone sh-ould k-now who are members and who are visitors. I hope that during the coming year.we may retrieve our reputation a little for really it is very, very bad." (Applause.) The doctor's remarks, beyond approving "hear, hears," did not arouse any discussion, although? a voice in the background remarked that there were "too many pot-hunters and not enough sports,"
