ROTORUA BOWLERS
ELECTION FOR EVERY OFFICE EXCEPT PRESIDENT. MR. LUNDON'S QUESTIONS. • With an election for ever.y office with the exception of that of president, which was automatically taken over by the senior vice-president (Mr. T. Kelly), the annual meeting of the Rotorua Bowling Club held last evening, was thq largest in the history of the club, The retiring president, Mr. A. W. Downer, was in the chair. The annual report and balance sheet as circulated to members was taken as read before being submittea for discussion. The meeting at first appeared to be a little reluctant to begin the discussion, hut Mr. J. R. Lundon gave it the required impetus when he rose to criticise various points in connection xyith the halance sheet.- -After some discussion, these were answerea seriatim by the retiring seeretary and president, to the apparent satisf action of the meeting. Reduce Charges. In the course of his remarks, Mr. Lundon expressed the opinion that some endeavour should he made to persuade the Tourist Department to reduce the rental charges paid by the club for room * and lockers. The rent of the room was £25 a year and the rent paid for the lockers, £13 10s; these payments, he considered, were altogether too high. Mr. Lundon also eriticised the amount of the eompetition entrance fee of 2s 6d which he also considered too high, and suggested that the committee might consider its reduction There were also some who could not always find the ready cash for a 12■gam'e ticket and in these cases, he considered that the charge of 1/- a game was too high. He thought that this charge might he reduced to 6d. This had previously been the amount of the charge, but it had been increased and he thought the present period of economic stress was a suitable time to bring it back to the lower figure. So far as the price of the annual ticket was concerned, Mrf Lundon said that he thought pressure should be brought to bear on the Department to reduce the charge. If 20 annual members could be guaranteed he thought that it was possible that a reduction might be granted. Letters of Condolence. Reference was also made by Mr. Lundon to the fact that although an amount expended for the purchase of a wreath as a tribute to the late president, Mr. George Barber, appeared in the balance sheet, a similar tribute had not been paid to- other members who had passed away during the year. Also the committee had not sent letters of condolence to the veiatives o fthese gantlemen, a mark oi sympathy which he considereo should have been paid. Mr. Downer explalned that these letters had been omitted through an unfortunate oversight. They certainly should have been sent, but he knew that the sympathy of every member of the club had been extended to the bereaved relatives. D ealing with the payment on aecount of the wreath, Mr. H. Hamilton (vice-president), said that this tribute had been paid to the late Mr. Barber as president of the club. He hardly thought, however, that a wreath could be sent at the death of a member. Reference to the fact that the club's casirbalance this year had decreased by approximately £15, was made by Mr. J. W. Tyson, but the secretqry, Mr. W. "W. P. Hall, explained that this had been caused by purchases of furniture and equipment. One eonsiderable item hac been an expenditure of £13 10s foi an eleetric boiler. Following this discussion,- a motion that the report and balance sheet be adopted was carried unanimousiy. Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted : — President. Mr. T. Kelly; vice-presidents, Messrs J. McDowell and H. Hamilton; seeretary, Mr. J. W. Webber; treasurer, Mr. A. H. Foggin; huditor. Mr. J. H. Buddle; committee, Messrs. E. Fowkes, A. K. Williams, A. Budd, A. V. Merriman, A. W. Downer, J. Aitlcen, R. A. Gardner, A. G. Cottrell, and J. W. Tyson. Mr. J. W.
