EVENING DRESSES.

A very agreable touch where evening dresses are concerned is the frequent- use of shoulder flowers of the dress material, lending youth and brightness. Shoulder straps of strass fastened with ornaments to the front of the decolletee neck are seen, erossed, suspender-fashion, over the back. Flounces of lace are being used to cover the backs of skirts, descending from belt to hemline, which latter touches the floor.

White is still strongly in vogue for evening dress; pastels are second in favour. Among the interesting and distinctive gowns designed for women who like something out of the ordinary is an adapted Victorian model of white organdi designed by a well-known Paris dressmaker. It has' the quaint off-the-shoulder decolletage, narrow black lace edges the flounces of the circular skirt, and the tiny ruffle that finishes the neckline. This would be an ideal dress for a slender young matron, and it would be equally becoming for both blonde and brunette. This ethereal gown needs a certain distinction to wear it well, though, and of course the shoulders and neck must be faultless.
