THE STEFANNSON EXPEDITION SEARCHING THE ARCTIC. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Aug. 18, 8.55 a no. New York, Aug. 17. Part of the Stefannson expedition has returned to Nome, Alaska, including Jenness, a New Zealander. The schooner Alaska left Barnard Harbour on July. 13th and reached Herschel Island on July 28th. During 1915 a detailed survey of the coast line was completed, the river explored for 75 miles and its geology examined. Surveys were made east from Cape Barrow, around Morebav and Arctic Sound by launch and canoe, returning by sledge. The result is that BSthurst Island charts have been rectified and over 150 islands chartered. The geological results, are encouraging, p, great copper field having been mapped. Jenness spent from April to November in 1915 sledging and packing with primitive Eskimos in the interor of Victoria Island, and made an extensive ethnological and archeological collectiou,as well as phonograph records of folk lore.
