THE CONQUERED TERRITORY.
A USEFUL ADVANCE. THE VALUE OF SECRECY. United Service. Rome, August 11. The enemy teritory captured by the Italians is twenty kilometers long (12% miles) and five (31-8) deep. It is semi-officially emphasised that the Austrians especially strengthened Gorizia, which was made a strategic pivot. The rapidity of the Italian success is not merely to the formidable character of the artillery and the determination of the infantry, but to the secrecy of the preparations. The Austrians imagined that their invasion of Trentiuo bad exhausted the Italians, but Geueral Cadorna, while maintaining a strong pressure at Trentino, profited by the inner lines between Trentino and Isonzo, to rapidly transport troops and material to Isonzo. He launched the offensive at a chosen moment with terrible and irresistible violence.
