THE COST OF GORIZIA DEFENCE THE PURSUIT CONTINUED Received August 13, noon. New York, August 11. The United Press’ Rome correspondent states that the Austrians lost more than fifty thousand killed, wounded and prisoners in the two days’ fighting preceding the fall of Gorizia. East of Gorizia the Italian cavalry is now pressing the retreating Austrians. South of Gorizia there is fierce fighting on the Carso plateau. Austrian prisoners report that the attack on Gorizia was a complete surprise.
