SHOOTING.

MANCHESTER RIFLES v. SAN- ! DON-OHAKBA.

What proved to be a pleasant and interesting shoot took place between the above mentioned Clubs on the Feilding range last Saturday, it being a return of the one fifed last year which resulted in a win for Sandon by a small margin. A slight puffy wind was blowing across the range but did not prevent both teams from making a fairly creditable score. When the marksmen left the 200 yards Sandon were six points to the good, this number being increased to 9 at 500 yards. Some excitement was caused at the next range when it was found that the last man down tor Sandon had only to hit the target with his final shot to make his side victorious. The light was very dull wren this shot was fired, bnt as the marker signalled an inner the Rifles knew they had lost by a small majority after a well-contested match.

There was |a large ‘ percentage of young shots in both teams who take a keen interest in the sport and are a credit to their respective Clubs, thanks to the assistance of elder sports who are ever willing to coach the yonng idea, and take an interest in the marked improvement of the youthful shootiet.

Refreshments and luncheon were provided on the range, and fthe thanks of both teams is due to those enthusiastic members of the home team who took charge of this department. Following are the scores:—
