LICENSE AND GROCERY STORE.

Press Association. Wellington, May 8

At a specially convened meeting of Wellington City Licensing Committee an application for a wholesale license was made on behalf of Aviaon, a storekeeper. On the Committee expressing objection to granting licenses to premises connected with a retail grocery business, Mr Menteatb, solicitor, submitted that the Committee by refusing a license on such grounds was virtually creating law instead of administering it. He intimated that if the Committee persisted in the refusal he would apply to the Supreme Court for a ruling. The Committee adhered to their decision and refused the application.
