ARBITRATION COURT.
Per Press Association,
Auckland, May 3.
Before the Arbitration Court in a claim by Mrs Piercy to receive £4OO from Macklow Bros, as compensation for the death of her husband, the master of the wracked scow Kia Ora, it was held that Captain Paircy was a partner even though he was paid wages. The .father of Thomas Young, seaman, drowned in the Kia Ora wreck, claimed compensation from Macklow Bros, for the death of his son. The Court found that claimant and hia wife were not dependant on deceased, therefore they were not entitled to any compensation. In Mahon v. Grand Junction G.M. Coy., a mother claimed for the death of her son through injuries received while assisting to start an air compressor engine. The Court found that the accident arose in the course of deceased’s employment;* and awarded her £l2O compensation.
