FIRE IN WELLINGTON.

Shortly after two o’clock t-hi* afternoon a fire broko cut in Warnock and Adkin’s large drapery establishment in Lambtou Quav. Some thirty girls, who were working upstairs, got considerably excited and frightened. They were all rescued by the Government Buildings Messenger Staff Brigade. U The building was badly damaged by fire and water before the flames were subdued, and the stock suffered severely from the deluge of water poured in by the City Fire Brigade. The building is owned by Hon. Hamilton Gilmer, M.L.0,, and Mr A. Maguire, who are Insured in the Atlas Company for £1.550. The contents are insured iu all for £7200, distributed as follows :—Royal Exohang £ISGC. Liverpool, London, and Globe, £1200; Norwich Union, £500; Alliance, £1360; North British £500; Sun, £750; Royal, £1500; London and Lancashire, £250. One of the adjoining buildings, occupied by Reynolds Bros., is owned by Mr Allan, and the stock is insured in ■the Norwich [office for £l5O, Both, adjoining buildings Buffered, and the contents suffered some damage by smoke and water.
