FEILDING BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
The annual meeting was held last night, the president, Mr W. J. B. Trewin, in the chair. The balance sheet submitted ■bowed the receipts to have been £BS 13s, of which £26 17a was received in subscriptions from members and £SO from the Borough Council. There was a credit balance of £ll 13s.
In the report reference was made to the good work of Mr Morton, late stationmaster, ohieflv by whose efforts the beautifying of the railway station grounds was effected. On the motion of the Chairman, a motion of sympathy was passed to the widow of the late Mr A. Q. Oarty. The balance-sheet and report were adopted. Messrs A. H. Sutton and D. Pryde were elected vice-presidents. The following were elected on the committee W. H. Qronbe, A. Mavo, P. P. Haggitt, D P. Barthrop, D. Barret, p John Oobbe, O. Gillespie, and S. A. Barton.
Mr F. S. Ellerm was elected a life member in consideration of presenting a seat. A meeting of the committee was held afterwards. The Chairman expressed the opinion that the time had now arrived when the .Council should be asked to appoint a caretaker to look after all the plots and reserves in the town, instead of making a subsidy to the Society. In respect to the station plot the secretary | instructed to \*rito to the member for the district to ask him to request the Railway Department to contribute to the cost of keeping it in order.
