UNION OF THE CHURCHES DISCUSSED.
United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received April 21, 10.30 a.m. London, April 20,
At the half-yearly meeting of the Congregational Union reference was made to the proposed union of churches.
Dr. Bevan said \he [thought they should take a straight out coutse and either say they were going into the subject or drop it. The President said the Union’s Committee had decided not to meet until it received the reports of the Lambeth Conference.
Dr. Bevan replied that the Conference had met and they did not know where they were. Meanwhile some sort of negotiations were going on between Anglicanj and Presbyterians. The Anglicans demand for the historic episcopate was unhistorioal,'unchristian, illogical and perfectly impossible. It was an ecclesiastical dodge to secure supremacy.
It was agreed that the Committee should submit a motion at th6‘Chamber meeting.
