FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting was held last night. Present—Mr W. J. B. Trewin (Mayor), Ors. Oobbe, Goodbohere, Barfcholemew, West, Atkinson, Tolley, and Bramwell. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Minister of Lands, etating that if the Government acquired Gieson’s bush the local bodies concerned must raise a full half of the cost by public subscription.—Proposed by Gr. Tolley and seconded by Or. Goodbehere, that the letter be received, and that the Reserves Committee ascertain the cost, etc., and report to Council. —Carried. From Secretary Feildiug High School Committee, drawing attention to the habits of cyclists of riding on the footpath opposite the school, to the danger . of scholars. —Resolved that a copy of the letter ‘ba forwarded to the police, for them to take action. From Chairman of Orona County Council, asking the opinion of Borough Council as to the advisability of opening the Gorge bridge ceremoniously.—Resolved that the Mayor confer with the Chairman of Orona County Council, and if necessary a donation may be promised by him. Prom Oroua County Council, applying fora contribution of £350 towards the cost of a bridge at Monies’ ford.—Resolved that the letter be favourably considered, and that more particulars regarding the donations towards the cost be obtained before final action should be taken. From Manager of Peilding Gas Works, stating that the Council’s application for more street, lamps had been forwarded to the Directors for consideration. —Received. From President of Feiiding Cricket Club, asking that any spare earth from streets be carted to cricket ground.—Resolved that the matter be favourably considered, and if there is any spare soil, it should be deposited on the cricket ground. From Alex. Atbuckle and 13 others, asking that a lamp be erected near the swing bridge, at corner of Duke street. —Resolved that the Gas Company be asked to place a lamp on the place asked for. From Sir Joseph Ward, stating that the matter of universal military training was under,the consideration 3f the Government.—Received. Leave of absence was granted to Ors. Richmond and Fitzherbert. The Engineer was instructed to call tenders for the next channelling and [kerbiug contract, and to have them in by next meeting. The Engineer reported that he had supplied the Borough solicitor with a list of those who had not connected with the sewerage system. The Engineer was instructed - to make all property owners place their verandah posts on the proper line.
The matter of telephone communication with the Reservoir was *left over for the incoming Councillors. The meeting ended. The Mayor said as this was the last Council meeting for the present Councillors, he would thank them for their services; lie also wished to thank the Clerk and Engineer for their services in the interests of the rate pavers; and he expressed a hope thpt many of the Councillors present would bo returned at next election.
