At the District Oonrt to-day an action was beard before Mr Haseldeu and a special jury in which Ruth ■Benbow. daughter of a small farmer at Terauba, claimed from Robert John Edgar, a young farmer, £SOO damages for breach of promise of marriage. The couple became engaged in 1904, but defendant broke off the engagement in October last, only to renew it a fortnight later He finally refused to marry plaintiff on f November 28nd, ( 1904; The principal reason given the breach was that the girl is tod quiet. The jury awarded £2OO damages.
