SYDNEY WOOL SALES

At the wool sales there was keen competition for super and poor quality wools, but irregularity was noticeable in good, grade wools, and in some cases there was an easier tendency. The highest price realised for greasies was 14%d. STOCK REPORT. Loan & Mercantile report:—At Himatangi, on Monday, we had a good entry of cattle, and all lines sold freely under the hammer in prices in favour of vendors, and a total clearance was affected. At Palmerston North, on Thursday, we had good entry of sheep and cattle. Sheep were in keen demand, all lines selling at auction, and keen competition exciting.for rape lambs. We quote: At Himatangi; yearling heifers 30s. yearling steers 39s 6d, forward cows 60s to 78s Bd, fat cows 90s 6d to 117 s 6d, 3 year steers 66s 6d, 2% year steers 83s to 88s, bulls 60s, pigs, weaners 10s to 11s 6d. At Palmerston North, fat ewes 10s, woolly lambs (small) 8s 4d, shorn rape lambs 8s lid to 9s sd, ewes and lambs (all counted) 8s 3d, yearling steers (discoloured ) 27s to 28s, 2% year steers (bad colours) 70s, 15 to 18 months steers 51s 6d to 525, 2 year steers 66s 6d, heifers in calf 355, to 40s, forward heifers 625, yearling heifers 27s 6d, store cows 50s to 555, forward cows 57s to 775, fat cows 92s 6d, bulls 80s to 655.' Messrs Abraham & Williams report :—At Palmerston North, on Thursday, an exceptionally heavy yarding of cattle was offered, and a good demand for all classes resulted m almoatf'every line being quitted at satisfactory prices. A good entry of sheep also met with a keen competition, and with the exception of one line of shorn lambs every lot was sold under the hammer. Quotations: — Cattle, three and four year bullocks £5 2s 6d to £5 12s, 3 year steers £5 to £4 6s, 2 year steers £2 13s to £2 16s, 18 months steers £2 5s to £2 12s, fat cows £4 to £5 Is, fat and forward heifers £8 10s, forward opws £2 15s. to £3, store cows 30s to £2 3s, 18 months heifers 26s to 3ls, springing cows £4 to £4 10s, bulls £2 Is ■to £2 17s 6d. Sheep, fat wethers 12s Id to 13s Bd, fat ewes 11s 6d, far and forward 2 and 4 tooth ewes and wethers 12s, 2 tooth ewes 12s 6d, 4 tooth ewes 12s Bd, 2 tooth wethers 10s 9d to 11s 4d, small mixed 2 tooths 10s 3d, light fat ewes 10s 2d, fat and forward lambs 10s 6d, cull lambs 4s 6d, 4, 6 and f.f.m. ewes 10s, shorn lambs 8s sd, f.f.m. ewes 10s, shorn lambs 8s sd, f.f.m ewes 6s lOd, mixed age ewes 9s, Dalgety & Co., Ltd., report:—At Palmerstonn North sale yesterday we bad a large yarding of sheep and good entry of cattle, nearly the whole of which were quitted at auction. We quote : Small woolly lambs 6s 6d, medium woolly lambs 9s 2d to 9s Bd, good woolly lambs 10s 3d, 2 tooth owes (medium) 12s 3d, yearling heifers (good) 36s 6d, small 15 months steers 395, cows and calves £3, empty forward heifers £3 Is, 2 to 3 year steers £4 3aJ fat cows £4 5a to £4 10s, 3 and 3-year-bnllocks £5 11s. At our opening Taihape sale on Wednesday, the 20th inst., we had a small yarding of sheep and a fair entry of cattle. There was a large attendance of buyers and all lines offered, met with keen competition. We quote as follows: Cull mixed 2 tooths ,7s 4d, 2 tooth wethers 10s 7d, woolly lambs 9s, mixed 2 year cattle £2 3s, 2 to 3 year steers £3 16s 6d, empty cows £2 14s, bulls £3, 3 and 4 year bullocks, very forward £6 4s.

WANGANUI SALE. Wanganui, January 31. At the local wool and skin sales by the Loan and Mercantile Company to-day, prices were distinctly higher for all classes of prpduce as compared to the rates ruling prior to the Christmas vacation amounting to fully 10 per cent, in the case of wool, sound Tpeltedfsheepskins, and tallow, and about 20 per cent, for hides. Calfskins sold at the excellent price of B%d per lb. for good 51b. average skins. In all oalsses of produce competition was keen and well sustained, with the exception of that for damaged and inferior lines of sheepskins.
