The police in a Calcutta suburb ■were mobbed because, in deference to the Hindu feeling they prohibited the sacrifice of cow| at a Mohammedan festival. The Mohammedans and Hindus fought and 60 were wounded. The military were summoned and compelled to fire, killing several of the rioters.
