TROUBLE AT BROKEN HILL.

Sensational developments have occurred at Broken Hill, where an attempt was made to dynamite the Silverton . branch line tramways, leading to the mines. Not much damage was done. ,• Seven officials who had been given a safe conduct through the pickets, were assaulted by 'the crowd and much knocked about. A contingent of $0 police arrived on the scene and the crowd stoned them. The police threatened to draw their revolvers. Dr. Harris tried to drive through the crowti under a police escort, but the crowd prevented his doing so. Tom Mann jumped into the buggy and drove it away. The crowd beat the police back, and the latter have now retired on to the mine. Reoaived January 5, 8.47 a.m. Sydney, January 5. Fifty extra police have been despatched to Broken Hill. Butchers decline to supply the Proprietary mine with meat.
