MARTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
The committee of above met last evening. Present —J. J. McDonald (chair), Richardson, Dolby, Wilkes, Mossman and Little. Mr Purnell was granted leave of absence. The balance sheet for last year was received and the Secretary was instructed to the Board for information with regard to certain items. ~ Notice was received from Mr Browne that he would begin a class in dairying on July 10th, if a class could be formed. It was decided to start a class if ten pupils came forward. The Director reported that there were 95 pupils attending the school. A meeting of the High School Committee was held subsequently at which there were present Messrs J. J. McDonald (chair), Rev. T. G. Carr, Messrs Richardson, Little, "Way and Dolby. In reference to a letter from the Chief Inspector, stating that if the Mar ton School Committee could make arrangements for the conveyance of seventh standard pupils from country schools to the High School the Board would give a subsidy towards the cost, ’ the committee was of opinion the district was too thinly populated to make the scheme feasible. The Headmaster reported on the attendance as follows :—Secondary classes roll 25 average 91 pei cent. ; primary roll 273 average 237, average 87 per cent.
