ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Wellington, June 4. Mr James Longton, nightwatchman at the General Post Office, who fell downstairs last night, died in the hospital this evening. The deceased was about 60 years of age, and had been eight or nine years employed at the Post Office. He was well-known in bowling circles, being a local skip. Mr Henry Hill-Beckett, a civil servant, who resides at Oreswiok, was found lying on the OrangiKaupapa road, leading to Northland, in an unconscious fstate,“*f at about half-past nine last night There was a wound on his head, and a pool of blood had formed close to where he was found. Dr. Begg was summoned to a house to which Mr Hill-Beckett was conveyed, and on his recommendation the injured man was taken to the hospital, where he is in a very serious condition. The case is surrounded with some mystery. Mr Hill-Beckett may have fallen over a bank and injured his head, or he may have been assaulted. Invercargill, June 4. While playing in a paddock at Athol, Albert Horell, aged five years, was kicked by a horse. His right eye was destroyed, a jaw bone smashed, and the nasal bone fractured.
