KISSES ON THE HIRE SYSTEM
A story which might have been read straight out of one of Mr W. W. Jacob’sVbooks was told at Grimsby Police Court recently, says the Daily Express. The telling lasted nearly three hours, and the court officials were sorry when it finished. Isaac Solomon, a Hebrew furniture dealer, was summoned fOF assault by Mrs Edith Hood, a fisherman’s Wife, and Mr Hood, a fisherman, was summoned for assault by Isaac Solomon, Mrs Hood bought » lian . tity of furniture from Solomon on the hire system. Every Monday he used to call and collect the instalments. But one day Mrs Hood had no money, so Isaac Solomon collected a kiss instead. All this was told in Court, amid convulsive chuckles. Next Monday Mrs Hood’s finances were still low. more the amorous Isaac pressed his lips to her blushing cheek. This, thought Mrs Hood, was paying too dear for her furniture. So she told her spouse, and he was wrath. He stayed home from the sea when the Monday came round. Isaac Salomon walked gaily in to collect either of the welcome dues. Ooin Was not forthcoming, so was about to take the alternative, kisses, when a curtain V&a pulled faside, and out d'c6p£ed the aggrieved husband. Isaac Solomon left hurriedly—with assistance. It was all a “plant’’ to get money from him, he complained in Court. But the Magistrate, who disagreed with kisses on hire system, fined him £3 and dismissed his counter-claim.
