ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Press Association. Dunedin, May 14. James S. Baker, single, labourer, aged 37, was drowned in the Molyneux last night, while returning to work from Clyde. He fell from the “Chair” when crossing the river. Napier, May 14
At the inquest at Meanee, touching the death of John Tracey, an old reisdent, who died while staying for the night at a neighbour’s house, the jury returned the following verdict: —“That the deceased met his death from enlargement or fatty degeneration of the heart. ’ ’ Dunedin, May 14.
The Clyde correspondent of the Daily Times’ reports that a young man named James Schrick lost his life last night while attempting to cross the Molyneaux in the. chairs. He missed his seat in the chair as it moved from the staging, and hung on to the side of the box until immediately over the centre of the river, where he remained. About the time his call for help was heard, he let go his hold and fell into the river. He floated some distance, and finally disappeared in a whirlpool about 200 yards from the scene of the accident. He was a native of Batearoa. Dunedin, May 14. A man named John Alexander McMillan, aged about 40 years, died suddenly this evening. He was with three companions engaged in stocktaking in Messrs A. and T. Burt’s premises, and about G. 45 o’clock, while the men were having tea he rose, walked two steps, and fell backwards. When the doctor arrived life was extinct. The deceased leaves a widow and family.
