ROBBERIES IN MARTON.

It is evident that a midnight prowler, who is also an expert thief, is making a tour this coast. Stratford recently reported a series of hotel robberies,- aud last nighc Marton had a similar, experience. At the White Hart Hotel two boarders’ room were entered and the pockets of its inmates were carefully gone through, all money being abstracted. Mr F. Oormack’s room was also entered aud the money in his pockets stolen. The thief is evidently an artist in his line, and he takes coin only, because some cheques in the boarder’s pockets were not taken. The Club Hotel was also entered aud here the thief was seen by a housemaid whose room he entered with a lighted candle. On her awakening he threatened to blow her brains out if she gave any alarm, and he then took the contents of her purse, which was lying on the toilet table, threw the empty purse at her, aud decamped. The police are investigating, and have some clue in the description given by the housemaid at the Club Hotel. The total haul of the robber amounted to about £l4.

Ooustable Fitzpatrick this morning arrested a man who at first gave a false name, but subsequently admitted his real name. The girl whose room was entered failed to identify him as the individual wanted.
