There was fine cool weather for the first match between New South Wales and New Zealand, which was played on the Burwood green. The scores were: —New South Wales — Donaldson, Francis, Thorpe, Gelding, 14; New Zealand —Waddell, Thompson, Ooltman, Goldstein, 37; New South Wales—Searl, Johnston, Morgan, Strong, 21; New Zealand— Ohegwin, Maynard, Scoullar, Bentley, 19; New South Wales—Hale, Elder, Aitken, Reedier, 25; New Zealand—Hastings, Johnston, Bishop, Allnutt, 15; New South Wales —Mackenzie, Bromwich, Phippard, Howe, 31; New Zealand—Wallace, Smith, Findlay, Hain, 36. Total—New Zealand, 87 ; New South Wales, 81.
The game was well contested. New South Wales defeated Victoria by 103 to 101.
