FIRE.

Per Press Association. Gore, April 6. A disastrous fire was discovered at Mataura, at two this morning, in the hardware premises of J. and J. Galt, in the centre of the town. The fire spread to Galt, butcher, Welham Bros., baker and Watson, tinsmith, on one side and on the other to a small building occupied by McKay, dentist and Dr. Hay, where it was stopped by a brick wall. The premises and nearly all the contents were destroyed. The stocks of Domigan, chemist, Greenwood, stationer. Hardy, tobacconist, Adams, cyclist. Smith and Jeffrey, watchmakers and Southland Drapery Company, were removed in safety, but the spread of the fire was stopped through the exertions of a bucket brigade. The insurances available are J. and J. Galt. £2OO premises and £IOOO stock, North British; Alex. Galt, plant £IOO Victoria ; Welhtam Bros., stock and plant £IOO, South British, £IOO Victoria. 6
