SHEEP BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION.
The annual report of the North Island Branch of the New ZealandSheepbreeders’ Association, shows that the year was commenced with a credit balance of £143 17s, to which' has been added in receipts £264 9g for subscription, entrance and inspection fees and flock books —total £4OB 6s. The total expenditure is £l9O 168, lid, leaving a balance of £217 19s Id;The assets of the Association, incln.d-1 ing cash in hand, fees due and deV posits, etc., amount to £4848 Ids'against which there are no> liabilh ties. There is a fixed deposit of £54 with the Bank of New Zealand, Palmerston, and it is proposed to add; thereto another £SO from the general account. The question of culling all regis-; tered flocks is under the consideration of the Association. The £prin-> ciple of an annual writing off of at least five per cent, has been adopted in the South'lsland, while many ad-i vooate a higher percentage, as adop-, ted by the Australian Sheepbreeders* Association. J The report recommends that tlir Department of Agriculture be :'empowered to have all sheep for exportation inspected by some competent inspector recommended by the Flock Book Association, and that no sheep be exported unless passed as a good and sound representative of its breed.
