SAEARERS’ DISPUTE.
Per Press Association. Christchurch, March 31. A conference between the Canter*' bury Sheep-owners’ Association and. the Oanterbry Shearers’ Union was held here to-day to see whether an arrangement could not be come to as ! at Palmerston North, to make & settlement outside of the Arbitration Court. Th claims of the shearers and the propositions of the sheepowners differed most radically on tie question of price, the sheep-owner*.’ proposing to pay 15s machine shearing, and 16s 8d hand shearing par 100_ with rations, 3s 4d more-without' rations; and the shearers claiming 23s 6d per 100 merinos and 21s par 100 other flock sheep. The differ?-; ences were this point, but/ it was on the claim of the shearers-, that “preference shall be given fie? members of the Canterbury Shearers Union” that the conference splitThe owners would not concede, and’’ the shearers would not withdraw this claim, and the conference proved abortive. ■>
