DRINKING AMONG WOMEN.

THE HABIT INCREASING IN AUCKLAND. Press Association. Auckland, March 3. At a meeting of Auckland Licensing Committee Sub-Inspector Gordan said he wished to bring under their notice a matter that had come to the notice of the police and which was in the nature of a surprise. He referred to the drinkiug habit among women at some suburban hotels. They were mostly well dressed respectable women and were not infrequently accompanied by young girls and children. In seven hotels lie had visited on one night no less than fifty-five women who had five children with them were found drinkiug in some of the hotel rooms, specially marked for ladies only. He mentioned the matter in the hope that the committee might suggest some means to prevent the evil spreading.
