Per Press Association. Westport, February 15. Arrived. Barque Fram, from Launceston to load coal for the Pacific Islands. Sailed. —Barque Mennoct, for Valparaiso. A witness in the Magistrate’s Court who appeared in the witness box in a stats of intoxication was ordered into custody for contempt of Court and locked up all night. The Marine Department writes to Westport Harbour Board on the subject of making Westport an efficient harbour for coaling of His Majesty’s ships, stating that the Marine Engineer to whom the matter was submitted reports that he concurs in the opinion of the Board’s Engineer that by continuing the moles into deeper water a deeper channel could be easily maintained by dredging.
