A COSTLY TANGI.

Press Associatioia. Wellington, February 12. The cost of the taugi over the late "Tamahau Mahupuku was the subject of argument in the Supreme Court to-day. Mahupubu died early in 1904 and the tangi lasted for three or four months. Mr Loasby, storekeeper of Greytown, sued the Public Trustee as admiistrator of the estate, for £lll 2s 6d, for goods sold and delivered in connection with the tangi, Mr James, S.M., gave judgment in favour of plaintiff for £92 Is 6d. Against that decision the Public Trustee appealed and the question which is being argued today is whether the administrator of the estate of a deceased native is liable for the cost of a tangi or whether, according to Maori custom, visitors to the taugi do noc bring a certain portion of the food required.
