BOWLING.
THE MARTON TOURNAMENT. All the rinks were occupied yesterday for the pairs tournament and several close and interesting contests took place. Four rounds were played and at the close of the day it was found the veteran bowlers—the Paterson Brothers—from St. John’s Club, Wanganui,»and Messrs Sutcliffe and Sharpe—another strong combination—of Mar ton, had each won four games. It was decided to playoff for the championship to-day after the singles are played. Visitors are loud in their praise of management and hospitality of Mar ton. Club. Quite a number of bowlers are remaining for the concluding day and are taking part in the singles. Results : DOUBLES. (First Round). J. McEldowuey and H. Hunt (Marton) 28 v. Jones and Glasgow 20 v.’ Currie and Gilbertson 6; Sutcliffe and Sharpe beat King and McEldowney; Aiken and Scott beat Woolley and Holdaway.
