It is persistently reported that the Bank of France is watching Mr Cortelvou’s measures for financial relief “ aud might co-operate with* the financial institutions of Paris to extend Mr Cortelyou assistance if impelled by tiro French Government in order to secure tariff concessions on French goods. Loudon, Nov. 31. The Times savs that the money market believes there is some basis in the report of some such arrangement having been diplomatically discussed. THE SCARCITY OF GOLD. New York, November 31. The active demand has again raised the premium on gold in New York. It is stated that tho demand is partly due to the banks having purchased money for the purpose of subscribing to the new treasury notes.
