TENNIS AND BOWLS.
The Australian Trip. Press Association Auckland, October 20. The Now Zealand Lawn Tennis Championship Meeting will bo hold at New Plymouth this season. Several prominent local players have already arranged to compete. The opening of the rowing season took place yesterday when trial fours were rowed "under the auspices of tho Auckland Rowing Association. Twenty-four crews, representing tho various rowing clubs took part. The bowlers selected to join in the projected visit to Sydney have been asked to discuss tho advisability of increasing tho number of players to go on the tour. The management has received a dozen or so applications for positions in the combination, and it is considered 'desirable to rescind tho resolution previously carried limiting tho number of players to 26. Only two of tho original 20 players selected have failed to deposit the necessary guarantee of good faith, and these through unforseen circumstances having arisen. All the greens are in rather a backward state owing to the recent unfavourable weather. The arrangements for tho North Island Bowling Tournament to be held in Auckland in January next are well advanced and a successful meeting is anticipated. The Auckland, Grafton, Ponsonby, Carlton and Eemuera clubs' greens have been set aside for the tournament. The pairs and singles matches will be played on the one green. Reports received from the South indicate that much interest has been aroused in the tournament and a large contingent of visitors is expected.
