[| Per Press Association. New Plymouth, October 11. At a meeting of the directors of the Now Plymouth Caledonian Society to-night, il was resolved to accept the offer of the Now Zealand Athletic Union to hold the second championship sports meeting hero. Wednesday, February 26th, (during band contest week) was fixed upon as the date of the meeting. An endeavour will bo made to arrange with the various provincial societies to hold their sports meetings about the same time in order to attract competitors to the West Coast. A representative of an English syndicate has arrived here with a boring plant, which is to be erected on the site of the petroleum lease secured by the syndicate at Carring* ton Hoad near town. _ , The syndicate holds options over neatly four thousand acres and proposes sinking three additional bores without delay. There is noth'll; fresh to report in connection with the Taranaki Petroleum Company’s bores, progress being satisfactory.
