JUSTICE HOOD’S RESIGNATION.

Referring to Justice Hood’s resignation, the Attorney-General said assuming that the Judge was only the chairman of the Court Government was not expected to rush in aud defend Ixim from every bit of slander, aud lying that was uttered against the chairman. Any Judge who undertook the duty might assume that whenever his decision, however fair and just, went against the views of the labour class he would be assailed, but ‘if a judge with independence in every way could not face such a position, how could anyone in far less favourable circumstances be expceted to do so? The effect of the resignation would he to encourage the class of person who made these attacks to continue, and they would probably be much worse iu future.
