APITI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tiio heavy rains of late have caused a number of slips on the Apiti-Kim-boltou road, but traffic is not impeded. A week of flue weather would bo much appreciated. Owing to the boisterous elements on Thursday the mock banquet in connection with the Literary and Debating Society was postponed till Saturday when a good number of members and visitors attended. An excellent repast was provided by the ladies. The following toasts were honoured: “The King,” (musical honours) j “The Dominion, ” by Mr J. O. Clark (Rule Britannia); “The Ladies, ”by Mr W. Curtis, responded to by Mrs Prouse ; “The Visitors,” Mr F. S. Guy, responded to by Miss Easley; “Local Industries,” Dr. Gregory, responded to by Mr H. Walls; ‘ ‘ The Press, ’ ’ by Mr J. McKenzie, responded to by Mr F. S. Guy; ‘The President,” by Mrs J, Matthews, responded to by Mr J. McKenzie; ‘ ‘ The Vicc-F: " : -Mdeuts, ’ 1 by Mr D. Clark, respev hd toby Mrs Gregory and Dr. Gregory; “The Secretary,” by Mrs Gregory, responded to by Mr J. Matthews; “The Bachelors,” by'Miss Loviou, responded to by Mr P. Guy ; ‘ 1 The Teaching Profession, ’ ’ Mrs Duncan, responded to by Miss Powlo. Musical items wore given by Mrs Matthews and Dr. Gregory and a recitation by Miss Powlo.
A variety entertainment and farce will shortly bo given for the benefit of the Domain and Tenuis Olu'q. As the talent is local great interest is being manifested.
