Of the businesses in Mavton during the past few years there ia none that iiaa been more successful or more consistently developed than that of Mr J. Mathers, bookseller and stationer. Seven years ago Mr Mathers went into this well known establishment ana under hit; management the business has advanced by leaps and hounds. It is not too much to say that the stock now' carried represents an assortment of modern goods unequalled in the trade on the WoM Coast and not excelled in point of quality and variety in tho large centres. Some time ago it became'’.necessary for tho stock to bo separately housed and later it was found'necessary to make more room to provide 1 for the growing turnover and so Mr Mathers lias had tho floor space of his shop increased to something like 3000 square feet, lu order to do this considerable alterations had to be made to tbe building and this work was successfully carried ont by Mr James MoOhesney. Improvements to the front of tho shop have also received attention and two flue show windows have been put in. It is not necessary to refer in detail to tho differemu departments nor to dilate upon tho stocks, fur if goes with.out saying' thatVit Mr Mather knot) only can all lines in fanev got ids, stationery, crockery, glass wave, KP. ami sterling silver wave, Rather goods, etc., b., procured but nothing is kept ex. cept of tho best quauty. The additional space tilfordcd by the late alterations has enabled Mr Mathers to renew hb stock: in much larger quantities than was over carried before. Having enjoyed the confidence of ids 'numerous 1 clients for over seven years there is every pason to boliavo that tho future history of tho establishment will bo a record of similar success to that achieved in tho past,
