Auckland (10) v. Southland (0)
(Per Press Association.)
Invebcaeoill, September 4. The football match Southland v. Auckland, to-day, was won by Auckland by 10 to nil. The game was mostly a forward one, and the play not of a very high standard though fast anu interesting. • Against a slight breeze, in the first spoU Auckland got a lead with a penalty goal by Magee. With the wind in tho second spell Auckland had all the best of tho game. Twinama potted a goal early in tho spoil, and just before tho call of time Cook scored a soft try. . . Auckland was superior tnrougbout, hut neither side showed scoring ability, and seven points would have been a better gauge of tho relative merits of tho teams.
Hastings, September 4. Hastings defeated Poverty Bay in a match yesterday 17 to nil.
