TURAKINA.

‘ The now roadiug room and library was opened a few nights ago, ami is proving a real acquisition to the village. On tho opening night there was a good attendance of old and young, and everybody expresses their satisfaction with the rooms. The ladies provided an excellent supper, which wa's much appreciated. Opiehad rendered as secretary in connection with the undertaking. Rev. R. McOully liiovet] a vote of thanks to Mr J. A. for the kindness done for years to tho subscribers to the library in providing accommodation for the hooks and acting as librarian. Mr James Clark has boon appointed custodian of the reading room, On Saturday night there was * most given Jia jj j u a p-( 0 f t] lo fnnds of tho roadiug room. Tho To oh meal School 'orchestra, from Wanganui, to tho number of a scoro, journeyed hero by special coach and gave one of the very best entertainments ever given here. Tho programme was two hours in length, but seemed to the audience too abort;' Mr J. L. Rock is it capable conductor, and in addition to this duty he played a yioliu solo with a master's touch. Songs were given by Miss Carte and Mr Herbert Gordon. These two able performers also gave recitations, which were much enjoyed. A violin duet was rendered by Messrs Andrews and Lenuard. Mr Stewart Austin played with much expression a couple of pianoforte duets. The whole programme was splendid, and at tho urgent request of all who heard it tho orchestra have kindly promised to pay us another visitsoon. Mr James Brace thanked the performers on behalf of the audience.
