Press Association. Dujjedin, August 21. At tho Supreme Court to-day John McMillan was charged with having, between October 25, 1807, and October 5, 1305, stolen £llsl 18s lOd. this sum having teen drown in varying amounts from the funds of McKechnie. and Fleming, in which firm accused was a partner. The case occupied all day. Mr Hanlon appeared for the defence and submitted that accused did not take the money with tho fraudulent intent of depriving his copartners, and thnt aec.ised had every '■colourof right" to take it. A verdict of not guilty was returned, and accused was discharged. Wellington, August 21.
At the Supreme Court to-day James Kowan was charged with a breach of the Bankruptcy -Act in that on the 22nd June last, a date within twelve months of his being declared a bankrupt, ho quitted Nov/ Zealand taking with him property to the value of £2O and upwards, the property of bis creditors. Accused was found guilty. On a second count of the indictment certain questions were reserved for argument before the Court of Appeal. Pending decision on these point accused was remanded on bail. AurtcLAXP, August 22. Justice Domiistou granted decrees nisi in Art!inr William Cottle v. Amelia Cottle, for misconduct with William Ross; and Edward Vincent Walters v. Elizabeth Walters and Thomas Walters co-respondent, tho latter being respondent's halfbrother, with whom misconductwas, admitted.
