That the question of establishing a uniform standard of books for State schools, to he sold for use by school children at cost price, is being inquired into. That the whole question of infant life protection is at present receiving the attention of the Government. That no allowance has ever been made for the use of horses or bicycles used by children travelling more than three miles to school, .and re.gret it. was unable to amend the regulation to include horses and bicycles within tho moans of conveyance for which payment is made. Mr McNab, replying to members, said the noxious weeds question was one of the most difficult probloms that the Department had hceii called upon to deal with. It was his intention to introduce a Bill dealing with the subject this session. At the evening sitting the Apiaries Bill was dealt with in Committee. "Varijus amendments were made, and the fine for not keeping bees in a properly constructed hive was fixed at £5.
