Manv farms are changing hands iu this district, as elsewhere. Mr *WilJiam Gilford has sold oat his holding to Mr Russell at a satisfactory figure, and has made another purchase in the neighbourhood of Toko. Mr PI. Gower, of Bonny Glen, has also sold his farm at a good figure. The Presbyterians at Makinkin are tailing steps to build achnrcii for their increasing congregation there. They fiud the seats that accommodate the children in the day school are not so comfortable for adults. Mr John Glasgow, of Mnrtou, is

donating the site for the building, and has thus placed tlio church under a very great obligation, it is intended to'hold a sale of work in Turakiua in November in aid of the Building Fund. Tlio" Rev. J. S. Smith, of Wellintgon, is lecturing in Turakiua on "Gems from the Jewel Mines," in compliance with a request from the Presbyterian Church. Mr Smith it kadi critic of poetical awl other literature, and has great gifts as a lecturer.
