For years past many a rr-er ' fancier * has cast, envious m-niccs in the direction of Mr Wat-high-class lierd, tho latter ujoying an euviahlo reputation as prize-winners and also for their high dairying records. Starting as a breeder sonic years ago, Mr Watkins was particularly fortunate in securing the very best of stock, those sterling hulls Goldfinch and Magnet’s Boy being the fathers of tho herd, while on the female side tho grand cows Mona, Luna 11., Fiona, and Cherry were his trump cards, tho lattcr’haviug a record of [2llls 14oZ of batter in seven days oilitlio pan. These [animals wore the foundation of his herd, and combining as they did tho purest blood with great substance and handsome appearance of the most approved Jersey type, it is not surprising that tho ’present land should reflect in a marked degree all the characteristics so conspicuous in their parents, and which have caused tho stock of tho latter to bo so much sought after by breeders Owing to his farm being somewhat remotely situated from tho convenience of railway, etc., Mr Watkins lias not been iiimsclf an exhibitor at our most recent shows, but his stock in [other hands Jliavo been exceptionally successful in the show ring. As showing tho estimation in which they are held, it may be mentioned that only a few weeks ago Mr WatJrius sold at a handsome figure a bull pud a heifer to bo shipped to tho Argentine, the purchaser having firstvisited nearly ail tho principal herds in the North Island, and pronounced Mr Watkins’ cattle tho best ho had scon and readily paying tho price asked. About 12 mouths ago, in order to keep abreast of tho times and with tho object of acquiring fresh blood, Mr Watkins imported from America a yearling bull bred on ■jijo most approved and fashionable Jiues for butler-fat production, his grand-dam (Pride Olga 4th) having a record of 273 jibs butter for seven days and 44Tlbs of milk for seven days, while his dam (Rosairo Olga 4th Pride) has n record of lylbs l-joz of butter with, first calf and over 2ill>s with her second calf, both these records being for seven days. Ail of the cows to be sold are in calf by (his bull. Most of tho pedigree stock arc entered in tho New Zealand ■ Jersey Howl Book, while, the balance pro all eligible for registration. Full particulars and pedigrees may ho obtained on application to Mr Newton King.
