Per Press Association. Wel; tnc.tox, August 8,
Tho now flax grading regulations, am amendment of the regulations issued m April, last appear in tlio Gazette. In tho main tho regulations are tho same, tho chief point of difference being in tho method of arriving at the quality. Tho decision to mate bale bands of hemp equal in quality to tho average of the halo instead of tow bands is retained. Instead of allotting 20 points to each of live divisions of quality washing has been eliminated and the scoring reads Fir stripping, 25 points; scutching, 35 ; colour, 25 ; strength, 25 ; total 100. The standards on which grades are to bo ’determined have boon altered by making for “superior ton points instead of nine. Those now read Grade - points. ■ A (superior) ... ... 00 to 100 inclusive 11 (line) St) to 80 C (y;ood fair) ... ••• 70 to id D (fair) GO to 60 E (common) ... ••• 50 to 59 E (rejected) under 50 Thus condemned fibre may now bo shipped as “rejected,” but tho grader may absolutely condemn any hemp which in bis opinion has 1 eon so badly treated as to mate it useless.
